Inspiring Community Owned Community
A Day-Party with tons of sun, fun, food, and activities, with the added bonus of supporting a mutual aid cause!
On this “Interdependence day”, we are supporting an ongoing effort to raise funds for our River’s Mom.
River has lived in community at Herron Cove (which was recently purchased by the Weave the People Cooprative in 2024) for 3 and a half years.
River’s mother Andrea lives in Atlanta, which is statistically one of the fastest gentrifying cities today. Andrea has been displaced 3 times in the last 7 years, having several houses sold off while she was living in them. She is a single person living alone, and could use the support of community to find secure footing in a major city.
Given the political and economic climate we find ourselves in, River feels passionate about calling on the support of community to help a loved one not only survive, but thrive!
We are hoping to raise an initial goal of $2,000 to help cover Andrea’s moving cost ($500) and one month’s rent ($1,500)
And a dream big goal of $5,000 with the hopes of supporting other mutual aid initiatives focused on housing folks!
This fundraiser is sponsored and supported by the Pansy Collective, Weave the People Co-op, and hosted by the Herron Cove Community.

This Day-Party is inspired by what is traditionally called a “Rent Party”.
AKA “House Party”, a social gathering where tenants and community members hire a musician or DJ and pass the hat to raise money to pay their rent. Also typically includes selling plates of food and/or other commodities.
Originating in Harlem in the 1920s, in black neighborhoods where folks experienced discriminatory rent prices. Their apartments were commonly priced higher for rent, though they made less money than their white counterparts. It was a solution to figuring out how to make end’s meet when all they had was community.
“Rent Parties” offered folks a space to dance, eat, and get away from the hardships of discrimination and living in a hard, new urban landscape.
Most notably, Rent Parties were heavily influential in the development of Jazz, Blues, alongside forms of swing dance. Out this culture of mutual aid sprang forth lasting, iconic artforms that spoke to the struggle.
