SUMMARY:From Seed to Cup - Propagating and Processing Tea in WNC with Red Sun Tea
DESCRIPTION:The tea in your cup begins with a seed. In this workshop\, we will harvest Camellia sinensis seeds straight from the bush and prep them for spring planting.  We will also process black tea from fresh tea leaves.  You will walk away with the skills necessary to make your own tea\, from seed to cup.   \n\n\n\nDid you know we live in a prime tea growing region?  The climate\, elevation and soil of Western North Carolina perfectly suit the cultivation of Camellia sinensis; the plant that all tea (black\, green\, white etc.) comes from.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop will be taught by Anthony Troia of Red Sun Tea. \n\n\n\nTopics covered: \n\n\n\nharvesting Camellia sinensis seeds\n\n\n\nprepping seeds for spring planting\n\n\n\nprocessing black tea from fresh tea leaves\n\n\n\nLocation: Herron Cove Community in Weaverville\, NC (register for address) \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare on MastodonShare on InstagramShare on Facebook \n\n\n\n\nAbout Red Sun Tea\n\n\n\n\nRed Sun began growing tea 15 years ago as a hobby and way to make their own tea at home. Their plants did so well that they continued planting until they had a hillside covered in plants and eventually realized they were harvesting much more tea than we could drink thmeselves! They make handcrafted tea. Their garden is located just North of Asheville NC on a steep\, southwest facing slope. They use sustainable\, eco-friendly methods to grow tea. which is picked\, rolled and dried throughout the spring and summer every year. No chemicals are used in the growing or processing of the tea. Through years of dedicated effort they have discovered the best practices and can provide you with the highest quality local tea\, plants and seeds. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister for the Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n From Seed to Cup – Propagating and Processing Tea in WNC\n \n \n \n Step 1 of 2\n \n \n 50%\n \n \n InstagramThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Contact DetailsName(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n \n PhoneCommunity or OrganizationIf you are a member of a community or group\, let us know 🙂How did you hear about this event?OtherWord of MouthRed Sun TeaWeave the People Social MediaWeave the People EmailThrough Weave the People EmailGooglePast ParticipantPlease select whichever fits best.Newsletter Signup\n \n Weave the People Newsletter\n \n \n Red Sun Tea Newsletter\n Signup to receive newsletters from producing organizations.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Payment DetailsHow would you like to pay?(Required)VenmoCredit/Debit CardCashPlease choose from venmo or credit/debit card. How much would you like to pay?(Required)\n \n Suggested $25-40 sliding scale – None turned away for lack of funds\, please enter a number as little as $0. Andrea has been displaced 3 times in the last 7 years\, having several houses sold off while she was living in them. She is a single person living alone\, and could use the support of community to find secure footing in a major city. \n\n\n\nGiven the political and economic climate we find ourselves in\, River feels passionate about calling on the support of community to help a loved one not only survive\, but thrive! \n\n\n\nWe are hoping to raise an initial goal of $2\,000 to help cover Andrea’s moving cost ($500) and one month’s rent ($1\,500) \n\n\n\nAnd a dream big goal of $5\,000 with the hopes of supporting other mutual aid initiatives focused on housing folks! \n\n\n\nThis fundraiser is sponsored and supported by the Pansy Collective\, Weave the People Co-op\, Dr. Bronner’s & the foamie homies and hosted by the Herron Cove Community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheck out the Pansy Collective on Instagram \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFind out more about Weave the People Co-operative \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRiver and his mom!\n\n\n\nRiver and his family\n\n\n\nShare on Social MediaOn MastodonOn InstagramOn Facebook \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Day-Party is inspired by what is traditionally called a “Rent Party”. \n\n\n\nAKA “House Party”\, a social gathering where tenants and community members hire a musician or DJ and pass the hat to raise money to pay their rent. Also typically includes selling plates of food and/or other commodities. \n\n\n\nOriginating in Harlem in the 1920s\, in black neighborhoods where folks experienced discriminatory rent prices. Their apartments were commonly priced higher for rent\, though they made less money than their white counterparts. It was a solution to figuring out how to make end’s meet when all they had was community. \n\n\n\n“Rent Parties” offered folks a space to dance\, eat\, and get away from the hardships of discrimination and living in a hard\, new urban landscape. \n\n\n\nMost notably\, Rent Parties were heavily influential in the development of Jazz\, Blues\, alongside forms of swing dance. Out this culture of mutual aid sprang forth lasting\, iconic artforms that spoke to the struggle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nAt the Herron Cove Community in south weaverville\, please signup for the address if you haven’t been before 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n\nParking\n\n\n\nPlease either: get a carwash\, or carpool \n\n\n\nDo not park in front of our neighbor’s house. If you are planning to stay long\, please park so you can be parked in. There a lot of\, but still limited parking. \n\n\n\nIf you are volunteering and will be here till the end\, we have some offsite parking options. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us in Interdependance! Please RSVP\n\n\n\nIt’s really helpful to know how many folks to expect\, prepare food for\, etc. \n\n\n\nAlso\, this is how you can findout where we are if you don’t know already! \n\n\n\nCost/Contribution Opportunities\n\n\n\nAttendance – $10-30+ slidings scale ($0-30+ for volunteers)Car Wash – $15Dinner – $10Raffle Tickets – $5 each ($15 for 4\, $25 for 7\, $50 for 20) \n\n\n\nVia venmo\, card (in advance preferred) or cash (if needed)

SUMMARY:Community Work Party
DESCRIPTION:It’s been A WHOLE DANG YEAR of cultivating stewardship here at Weave The People Co-op (AKA Herron Cove)\, and boy-howdy\, what a year it’s been! \n\n\n\nAs we celebrate all the hard work we’ve done—and with chainsaws and cleanup crews still buzzing away in the aftermathematics of Helene—we’re calling on our network of friends to support us in our little neck of the woods. Quite frankfully\, we need the help. \n\n\n\nOn April 26th\, we invite you to join us for a day of collaborative land projects that will help us move forward in a big way and offer even more to this place we love. \n\n\n\nCome weave community!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPersonally speaking\, we all know you’ve been eagerly waiting for the perfect opportunity to celebrate my belated 40th birthday… Well\, lucky us\, this is it! SUMMARY:Growing Tea in WNC - Camellia Sinensis in Appalachia with Red Sun Tea
DESCRIPTION:Did you know we live in a prime tea growing region?  The climate\, elevation and soil of Western North Carolina perfectly suit the cultivation of Camellia sinensis; the plant that all tea (black\, green\, white etc.) comes from.  \n\n\n\nThis class will explore the how-to’s of tea cultivation in our local WNC bioregion.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop will be taught by Anthony Troia of Red Sun Tea. \n\n\n\nTopics covered: \n\n\n\nHarvesting\, stratifying and germinating seeds \n\n\n\nProducing and maintaining nursery stock  \n\n\n\nProperly locating and planting sinensis in the field \n\n\n\nExploring agroforestry models incorporating sinensis \n\n\n\nOngoing culture/maintenance\n\n\n\nLocation: Herron Cove Community in Weaverville\, NC (register for address) \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Red Sun Tea\n\n\n\n\nRed Sun began growing tea 15 years ago as a hobby and way to make their own tea at home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister for the Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n Growing Tea In WNC with Red Sun Tea\n \n \n \n Step 1 of 2\n \n \n 50%\n \n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Contact DetailsName(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n \n PhoneCommunity or OrganizationIf you are a member of a community or group\, let us know 🙂How did you hear about this event?OtherWord of MouthRed Sun TeaWeave the People Social MediaWeave the People EmailThrough Weave the People EmailGooglePast ParticipantPlease select whichever fits best.Newsletter Signup\n \n Weave the People Newsletter\n \n \n Red Sun Tea Newsletter\n Signup to receive newsletters from producing organizations.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Payment DetailsHow would you like to pay?(Required)VenmoCredit/Debit CardPlease choose from venmo or credit/debit card.
